A few weeks after the United Kingdom announced the reinforcement of security measures against terrorism, the French minister Michèle Alliot-Marie mentioned and, in an interview with Le Figaro, the fight against terrorist propaganda on the Internet is one of her priorities. To this end, it intends to provide services with material, effective and legal means specialized in cybercrime.
The minister stresses that she wants to «have the means to stop terrorist propaganda, to discover the operational networks in order to reach them, preventing them from causing damage».
Michèle Alliot-Marie admits that the first threat to France is Islamic terrorism associated with the Bin Laden network. In his view, «groups linked to Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb, Lebanon or the Afghan-Pakistani zone may want to threaten the French abroad, the French military or to carry out attacks» in Gallic territory.
That said, and taking into account that many sites are hosted in the United States, the minister stressed that she will travel to Washington to meet with authorities and reinforce anti-terrorist effectiveness. In parallel, regular contacts will also be made with other European countries.
