THE Foxconn, Apple’s largest product manufacturing partnership, is making the billion dollar investment in its Indian facilities worthwhile with the start of manufacturing the iPhone 11 in the country, according to a report by The Economic Times.
According to the information, the device is being manufactured at a Foxconn unit near Chennai, in the east of the country. This is not the first time that the Indian plant has assembled Apple devices, since the iPhones XR and SE (first and second generations) were also or are being manufactured there.
In addition, the company plans to increase production in phases and Apple would even be considering exporting devices made in India – as done with the iPhones 6s and 7 manufactured there.
Apple also sells iPhones 11 in India, which were made in China; therefore, increasing local production is a way to make the most of the Indian government’s initiatives, which could save the company 22% in import taxes, making it possible to reduce prices in the country.
It is speculated that Apple is planning to produce $ 40 billion on iPhones in India with the help of Foxconn and also Winstron. In addition, there are rumors that it intends to expand its presence in the country with the implementation of an Apple Online Store sometime this year – followed by the launch of a physical store in 2021.
