Business and government spending in the ICT products and services sector is expected to decrease three percent this year, according to Forrester forecasts.

The recession in the United States and other countries will be the main cause of the expected slowdown, followed by exchange rate fluctuations, reveals the consultant.

The figures mark the first drop in investment in ICT since 2002, when spending on technology and services decreased by six percent.

The slowdown, however, is not expected to last long, with a recovery expected next year, with spending on technologies growing by 9 percent.

According to Forrester, some sectors of the industry will deal with the crisis better than others, namely the area of software, whose sales in 2008 are expected to equal those of the previous year.

The equipment sector, which includes computers, servers and storage devices, will drop by four percent, with sales standing at $ 434 billion.
