Inspired by mobile devices, concept created for a new version of Windows brings minimalist design
Five years after its official launch, the Windows 10 the most widely used operating system in the world by owners of computers and notebooks – a position it has held since February 2018. But, even with regular updates, the software is still often more remembered by users for its problems than for the possibilities of use it provides, It is a dream of many users that the Microsoft it was quite different than it really was.
But while the May update expected for the operating system is not available from Microsoft, YouTuber Kamer Kaan Avdan last Sunday (19) published a video where he shows the concept of a Windows 20 – a new operating system design created by him based on Windows 10.
Avdan is known for creating this type of concept, and has already created videos in the same style based on Windows 95, Windows XP and Windows 7, in addition to a very interesting concept of what would be a Windows developed by Apple.
Welcome to Windows 20
Windows 20 home screen created by Avdan (Capture: Rafael Rodrigues / Showmetech)The projects of Avdan they are all design concepts, so in his work there is no mention of which different functions or tools is suggested Windows 20 would have, with the creator focused only on defining a visual style that would match the idea of this new software. So, I need to make it clear that this project is just a design exercise, and does not touch on some points that are the most criticized in the Windows 10, such as security and privacy.
And, as we can see in the video at the end of this post, Avdan seems to have nailed it in a very interesting design for this new Windows, and the final result not only brings a very different visual concept than what we get used to seeing in Microsoft, but also very different from all other YouTuber projects.
The visual change is already very clear from the home screen, much more minimalist and more attractive items than we are used to seeing in the look of the programs of the Microsoft, and that refers to the look used in mobile devices.
An interesting change is also the existence of a customized taskbar, where the user can choose to remove even buttons that are currently mandatory in the Windows 10, such as the search bar and the Start menu. In addition, it is also possible to choose whether the menus on the bar will be centered or left aligned, thus allowing users to have greater control over the type of organization they prefer.
Fully customizable taskbar is one of the changes suggested by Avdan in his concept of what would be Windows 20 (Capture: Rafael Rodrigues / Showmetech)Another very interesting change is the introduction of interactivity in tiles (without official translation from Microsoft, but used without context can be translated as tiles) Start Menu Windows. The project of Avdan to end Live Tiles (something that the next update to the Windows 10 must do) but does not make the feature just simple buttons, allowing the user to have access to some of the most used options of the application (such as, for example, writing a new email if it is a tile of the Outlook) by stopping the mouse cursor on this tile, allowing the program to open by executing this function.
The concept also brings a new File Explorer with the option of browsing tabs equal to those present in browsers such as Chrome it's the Edgethus making it much easier to search for different files and access different folders at the same time.
The File Explorer with tabs is an idea that Microsoft should look forward to implementing in the Windows of the future (Capture: Rafael Rodrigues / Showmetech)We also see a new design for the settings menu, which becomes much easier to navigate. Instead of hiding the configuration options in submenus that often make it difficult to find the desired option, all configurations are listed on a single screen, making it much easier to find the right option in those moments when you know that a specific configuration exists in the Windows but you have no idea what the name is Microsoft gave it to her or to which submenu she was assigned.
The concept also presents other interesting changes, such as two different types of dark mode (with different shades), a redesign of the Central de Windows and the addition of a Tablet Mode, which would greatly facilitate the lives of those who have notebooks that can be turned into tablets.
Windows 20 would meet users' needs by offering two different options in the dark (Capture: Rafael Rodrigues / Showmetech)Of course, the entire Avdan it is just a concept created by the user that has nothing to do with the Microsoft, so we can’t expect these changes to appear in the next company’s operating system. But, if she’s looking for ideas on how to improve the next Windows, the YouTuber video shows some that are very good. If you were curious to know more about this concept, the complete video can be seen on the Avdan on Youtube.
