Fnac will launch ebook reader

Fnac presented a reader of ebooks own brand, the FnacBook. The device is expected to start reaching stores in time for Christmas shopping, with access to a store with more than 80,000 titles in digital format.

The information is advanced by the international press, according to which the equipment features a 6-inch touch screen, bet on electronic ink (such as Amazon’s Kindle) and has Wi-Fi and 3G connection and an internal memory of 2GB, as well as input for MicroSD cards up to 16GB.

With a weight of 140 grams, the device also reproduces photographs and audio, supporting formats such as EPUB, TxT, Adobe PDF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, MP3 and HTML. The battery will have autonomy for 15 hours.

For now, the launch of the equipment is only confirmed for the French market, where the chain of stores originates, where it will be marketed from 10 November. The advanced values ​​for the price vary between 199 and 273 euros.

With regard to content, users can already count on 50 classic works, of several languages, pre-installed. Other titles may be purchased through the Fnac ebook store, where 80,000 books and 750 more cartoon titles are counted, whose prices are fixed by publishers.

TeK tried to contact Fnac in Portugal but it was not yet possible to obtain further clarification on the product or eventual launch of the reader in our country.

The internationally advanced information covers the commercialization both in physical stores (in France) and through the company’s website, but there is nothing about the possibility of shipping to other countries. Especially because the distribution in France takes place in partnership with the mobile operator SFR, which ensures the connection to the Internet.
