The winners of the Portuguese elimination of the App Star contest, launched internationally by Vodafone last September, are already known. The first place went to Pedro Campos, with the FlickrShow proposal.
The application allows searching and viewing images on Flickr via the mobile phone, using search criteria such as keywords, user name, predominant colors and location, detected through the GPS module.
Second was the Tour application, developed by Vítor Carreira, which uses the «current location» of the mobile phone’s GPS module to find nearby points of interest, such as restaurants, hotels, monuments and bars, for example.
The third place on the podium was secured by Hugo Sousa, who participated in the App Star contest with the XChange application, which allows a quick and intuitive way to convert monetary values to various world currencies.
The three winners will receive prizes of, respectively, 25 thousand euros, 15 thousand euros and 10 thousand euros.
The first Portuguese classified, Pedro Campos, will now represent Portugal in the very pan-European final between eight countries – Germany, Spain, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom -, in which the winner will be awarded 75 thousand euros, making a total prize of 100 thousand euros.
This second phase of the contest is decided online, with the contribution of internet users, in a vote available until 21 May. Voting is unique – that is, each user can only vote once – and requires registration on the site. The winner of the international competition will be announced on May 24, 2010.
It should be noted that the applications mentioned are already available for download in the Apps Shop, directly from Vodafone 360 mobile phones or on the service portal.
