Flameshot, another great PrintScreen tool for Linux

Diolinux

When we need to «take a print» of something, it can be a photo, video or even a website, we always use the tools that come by default in the distros and then to make markings or notes on them we need to open an image editor, like GIMP or Pinta.

But the flameshot is a tool for PrintScreen or «take print» of your computer screen in a very simple and easy to use.

It is possible to install Flameshot in your distro in 4 different ways, .deb packages for Ubuntu and derivatives (Bionic and Xenial) or to Debian (Jessie and Strech), the .rpm for Fedora 27 and 28 or choosing the format AppImage, all with architecture x86_x64, which works in any distro, alternatively you can download the source code of the application, this video that we did on tar.gz packages can help you with that.

To download you can access the Github of the project and choose the best way for you.

Once installed, you need to initialize it a first time, just look for it on your dashboard or in the application menu. In the case of this article, we are using gnome, but the icon is the same in distros.

Once started, it will appear on your taskbar. And when we click on it with the left mouse button, it opens a submenu offering you 3 options: Take Screenshot; Configuration and Information. To remove the “print«Or»screenshot”, Let’s click on the first option.

Right after the capture, your screen will be slightly dark and with a message in the middle explaining what you can do with the tool. It says that you can select with the mouse the area you want to «print», that with the right button you can change the colors of the tools and that by pressing the Enter you save the «print».

The format it saves is in .png, but if you need to compress it some more, we recommend Converseen, tool that already has an article here on the blog.

A very useful tool for our day to day and to make it more productive. =)

Now tell us in the comments, what did you think of Flameshot.

Until next time and a big hug.
