Fixed offers based on GSM technology continue to give a decisive boost to the growth of the fixed telephony market, which for several quarters, before the appearance of these offers, decreased.

According to the figures released today by Anacom, for the second quarter of this year, show that there were 3.3 million fixed telephone service customers in Portugal at the end of June, in the direct access modality. The number represents an increase of 0.6 percent over the previous quarter and 6 percent over the same period last year.

The new data also reveal the loss of market share of the Portugal Telecom group, which was 2.6 percent in the quarter and 13.3 percent over the same period, to settle at 70.9 percent at the end of the quarter. .

The loss of terrain by the PT group results not only from the new fixed offers supported on GSM and the growth of offers in direct access, says the regulator, but also from the increase in activated SLRO accesses. In addition to the number of accesses, the decrease in the incumbent’s share extends to the minutes of conversation and calls, which in the period under review once again fell slightly to the advantage of alternative operators. PT’s competitors over the last year increased their shares by 2.5 and 2.3 percent, respectively in minutes of conversation and calls.

In global terms, at the end of June there were 4.2 million customers of the fixed telephone service, a number that adds the customers in direct access with customers in indirect access, a modality that has been progressively decreasing. Both in the pre-selection component (21 percent, in a year-on-year comparison), and in the call-by-call selection component (40.3 percent).

Between April and June, traffic originating on the fixed network was 2.1 billion minutes, generated by 712 million calls. The numbers represent a 7.8 percent decrease in traffic minutes and a 6 percent decrease in the number of calls made, year on year.
