Brazil’s tropical climate can facilitate mosquito breeding. The inconvenient presence of the insect inside the home is capable of disturbing people’s daily lives. With the promise of putting an end to this problem, the Anti Mosquito Sonic Repeller app offers a high frequency sound, almost inaudible to humans, that would be able to affect animals. Available for Apple phones, constant audio would be effective in keeping mosquitoes, ticks and other insects away, according to the developer.

The suggestion is the same as Anti Insects Sound Simulation, exclusive for Android devices. The user chooses a frequency, presses the central button and that would be enough to keep the insects away. Despite its commitment to repel most insects and rodents, Don’t Bug Me Mosquito makes reservations. The developers claim that, because of the variety of species, some animals may be immune to sounds. Therefore, they provide a frequency selector for each user to adjust to the most suitable level for mosquitoes in their region. All three services are free.

2. Heart rate meters

Some applications guarantee to work as medical equipment and, therefore, would be useful in monitoring people’s health. This is the case of the Heart Rate Monitor, for example, aimed mainly at athletes and patients with heart disease. The system uses the device’s camera to perform the alleged measurement and record the data. According to those responsible for the app, the operation is better on devices with flash. The user is instructed to place his finger on the camera for a few seconds, and the cell phone would then follow the color changes to determine the heartbeat rhythm.

The same principle is applied to the Accurate Heart Rate Monitor, according to the platform. However, this one promises to maintain accuracy even without the flash light. With a more sophisticated interface and greater diversity of resources, the application offers reference values for different cases, measurement history, graphs with statistics and addition of comments.

Both apps are free and available for smartphones with the Google operating system. It is important to note that the efficiency of the services is not scientifically proven, so the user must prioritize medical monitoring.

Discovering other people’s lies is the proposal of several applications, which make it clear: it’s all a joke. Designed to play pranks with friends and family, the Joke Lie Detector Joke displays a supposed fingerprint reader on the screen. When someone places their finger, the interface lights up a red or green button to indicate whether the person lies or speaks the truth, respectively. The trick is in the cell’s physical volume buttons, which when pressed upwards show true and downwards false.

In the case of the Lie Detector Face Test Simulator, the method is different. It simulates a scan of faces to «discover» liars. The user only needs to add a photo of the victim of the prank and decide the diagnosis in advance. Another mode is used in Voice Lie Detector Simulator. The latter records the voice of the «interrogated» subject to assess whether the statement is real or false. Results can be random or controlled. The three apps are free and are on the official Android store.

4. Animal sound translator

The contact between humans and animals promises to change with the Pet translator Cat & Dog app, available on the App Store. The system would be able to translate dog barks, cat meows and other animal sounds into human language or vice versa. The platform claims to analyze the user’s voice and transform the recording into a sound recognized by cats or dogs, from a database with 200 audio samples from 30 pets.

Meanwhile, PetLab Animal Language Translator says it can decipher what the pet wants to say. The owner records the sound made by the dog or cat, the system processes and displays the alleged information on the screen in writing. On sale on Google Play for R $ 9.49, the app also includes other features, such as tips on tricks for playing with animals and information on behavior and health. Also aimed at Android phones, Traduz Cão is a free and simpler simulator. With it, it is possible to pretend to translate both dog barks into human speech and the other way around, useful for playing with friends.

X-ray applications also involve the feature used in hospitals, to check the patient’s health, and airports, to identify suspicious objects, for example. As radiation is of controlled use, the service is also a game. They emulate radiographic images, in order to «reveal» what is inside a person or object. With the Whole Body X-ray Scanner Simulator Joke, the user simply points the smartphone camera at someone and sees their supposed skeleton. The results can be shared on social networks, such as Facebook and Instagram.

The Bag X Ray Scanner 2018 Prank has a different function. Instead of the human body, it focuses on inanimate objects. The software pretends to scan handbags, backpacks and suitcases to show what is inside. Just select a type of bag and some information about the «target» and the app displays various items with radiographic appearance, including dangerous objects, such as pistols, knives, bombs and handcuffs. Both apps are free and available for Android devices. They inform that the images shown are part of a collection and, therefore, do not reflect reality – they are only for entertainment.
