Five things that have fallen out of favor with the popularity of WhatsApp

WhatsApp menguji Mode Gelap di iPhone (iOS); tahu cara mengaktifkan

WhatsApp was launched in 2009 and, over time, its use has become massive, creating a new format for instant communication on Android and iPhone (iOS) phones. Exchanging messages, making calls and video calls became easier and cheaper, now depending only on plans for mobile Internet or Wi-Fi. Therefore, some practices prior to the appearance of the application, such as voice calls by operators and sending SMS, ended falling into disuse.

The changes that occurred with the arrival of the app go beyond the screen. Customs like ringing the bell are less used nowadays, since many people end up using the app to notify that they have arrived at their friend’s house, for example. Paper birthday invitations have also been replaced by virtual versions or groups in which the host gives details of the party. Check out a list of five things that have fallen out of favor with WhatsApp below.

The transformations caused by the arrival of WhatsApp may even be more evident in day-to-day practices involving calls and text messages, but even the bell has become less used, as users can simply open the application and send «I arrived» . The question was initially asked by the user @youngandjoven, on Twitter.

Before the existence of WhatsApp, the user needed to place credit through an operator to send SMS messages. «Torpedoes» were used a lot, but the service ended up getting expensive, since the charge was given by message sent. With the arrival of smartphones and WhatsApp, the practice has fallen into disuse in Brazil, mainly due to the speed and ease of use of the application. The use of Wi-Fi or a mobile data package generates less costs and makes it easier to share photos, videos and documents.

3. Voice calls with operators

The ease of sending messages through WhatsApp left aside the need to make voice calls by operators. The application makes it possible to connect people throughout the day and still allows the sending of voice messages and other audios.

In addition, the messenger also offers voice calls over the Internet, making the cost per call extremely low. If the user is on a Wi-Fi network, it is possible to chat for long periods without spending a cent.

Those born in the 90s probably spent evenings on MSN chats exchanging messages and even playing games with friends. Although simple, the messenger had functions similar to WhatsApp, such as placing status phrases, making video calls and using emojis. With the arrival of smartphones, the program fell into disuse, until, in 2012, Microsoft decreed its end.

5. Birthday invitations

As most people communicate via WhatsApp, the application is also widely used to schedule meetings or birthday parties. As a result, traditional physical birthday invitations are less and less used. There are also those who prefer to make a virtual invitation and send it individually to each contact. Another alternative is to create a group and pass the information on to everyone at once.
