Five different groups would be working on wireless charging solutions at Apple, but what will be the result?

At this point in the championship, it seems to rain in the wet to say that the next iPhone will come with some technology wireless charging: there have been so many rumors, expert opinions and even real events that support this narrative that, if for some twist Apple does not introduce this novelty in its (probably) September keynote, the Cupertino floor will shake.

iPhone with Wireless Charging

A report published today by Reuters sheds more light on the development of the next iPhone (or next iPhones) and, among the new features mentioned, there is a little talk about the development of wireless charging technology. According to the article, which cites a source close to the subject, no less than five different groups are working on ways to implement wireless charging on the next iPhones!

The different approaches for the same purpose are not new within Apple: it is common for the company to test dozens of prototypes of the same device, as well as separate engineers into teams so that, separately, they develop solutions to the obstacles encountered in the process of creating the devices. new technologies and then can combine these discoveries in a single package.

What no one knows, however, and here we enter the field of purest speculation, whether Apple will actually be able to implement wireless charging technology in the next iPhones and without contact. Rumors point to this direction as well as to a more conservative one that Ma would simply “catch up” to rivals, placing in its next smartphones a “traditional” wireless charging feature, which requires the use of a base and which already exists in large scale on competing devices for at least four years.

Another doubt that hangs in the air is whether this feature, when presented by Apple, follows an existing standard, such as Qi, or uses some proprietary technology developed within the company itself.

In this regard, I say: absolutely perishable if Tim Cook and his gang manage to bring the next iPhones with contactless charging through proprietary technology. This is a very important advance in the world of technology that deserves applause in any way whatsoever. On the other hand, if the next smartphone from Ma requires a charging base and cannot be used with accessories already on the market shame on you, Apple!

Anyway: we will still have to wait a few months to know what will become of this whole story.

Opinions?
