FCC endorses mysterious MacBook Pro model

Apple updated the MacBooks Pro less than two months ago, which – theoretically – could indicate that the line would spend a while (at least one year) without receiving news. Recent rumors, however, suggest that the story may not be quite that: a few days ago, we talked about the possibility of Apple launching the speculated 16-inch model, with OLED screen, still in 2019.

Now, an approval by the US Federal Communications Commission (Federal Communications Commission, or FCC) gave yet another indication that we will see news among the MacBooks Pro nest by the end of the year – although not necessarily related to the supposed 16-inch model.

The regulatory body approved this week the launch of a new model of the MacBook Pro, code A2159. It does not correspond to any model of the machine currently sold, but it matches one of the models recently registered with the Eurasian Economic Commission (Eurasian Economic Commission, or EEC).

Additional information about the mysterious computer is sparse, which could indicate that we are, in fact, talking about the long-awaited 16-inch model. One detail, however, points to another direction: as evidenced by a Reddit user, the inscriptions on the bottom of the future MacBook Pro bring the energy information “20.3V – 3A Max”, which corresponds to a 61W charging capacity – similar to 13-inch MacBooks Pro.

That is, the most likely is that we are dealing here with a new 13 ″ MacBook Pro with different specifications; the most sensible thing would be to bet on an upgrade of the machine without Touch Bar (which, as is well known, was left out of last May’s updates). Unless, of course, Apple has a 16 ″ laptop with battery technology and radically different charging (which does not seem to be the case).

The curious thing is that the documentation regarding the MacBook Pro A2159 disappeared from the FCC records shortly after its publication. Typically, agency approvals are issued on the same day or the day before product launches – that is, either an employee there pressed a button ahead of time, or Apple has a launch scheduled for the next few days. We will stay tuned!
