Failure in the iOS News app has shown audience figures below real

As it is only available for the moment in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, the new app News iOS 9 may even have been forgotten by many of you since its icon doesn't even appear on the system's Home Screen, unless you set the region in Settings for any of the three countries.

However, like (almost) every native iOS app, it has already gained a good audience in these regions, not least because it really looks cool. The problem? Not even Apple knows exactly the actual News audience.

In a comment to the Wall Street Journal, Apple's senior vice president of software and internet services, Eddy Cue, revealed that the company recently detected a flaw in the News that has happily shown incorrect audience data, below the real (and not the other way around). In other words, neither Apple nor website publishers know exactly today what traffic is generated by accesses made by News.

At the end of October, at its last financial results conference, Apple said that News was already being used by more than 40 million people.

Apple is already working on a fix for the bug, but has not given a preview of when an update will be made available to users. It is likely that it will come on iOS 9.2.1, which reached its second beta version last week.
