The system is called "Deep Entity Classification" (DEC), which, in literal translation, means "Deep Identity Classification". According to Facebook, thousands of criteria are used to assess accounts and determine whether they are banned. The tool verifies the behavior of active users in relation to the rest of the community, such as the number of friend requests sent and pages liked. An interesting feature, and beneficial for the social network, that, like automatic artificial intelligence, it can evolve as spam adapts.

According to Facebook's data science manager, Bochra Gharbaoui, the tool has already reduced the number of fake accounts by 27%. As the question of the social network against fakes and spam profiles in the recent, barring users is nothing new, however, the approximately 6.5 billion that were banned are bulky numbers.

Despite this, users have nothing to fear. The tool analyzes and identifies four types of fake profiles: illegitimate accounts, which are not represented by the person in question; real users who have been compromised by hackers; "spammers" who repeatedly send automatically generated messages; and scammers who manipulate users to hand over their personal information. The artificial intelligence system can even identify non-human habits to disable these profiles.

According to the company, since the DCE was implemented, the social network has operated with an approximate number of 5% of all 2.5 billion active users. This Facebook effort has gained notoriety within the American political scene, with the 2020 elections and polemics related to fake news and fake profiles in the last presidential race in 2016.
