According to Vice President of Privacy Erin Egan and Assistant Legal Director Ashlie Beringer, users said it was difficult to find privacy settings and other important tools on Facebook. Thereafter, the entire mobile device settings menu has been redesigned and outdated settings have been deleted. Instead of having configurations spread across almost 20 different screens, they are now accessible in one place, they explain.

In addition, a new Privacy Shortcuts menu was created, combining existing options in one place, with the aim of making the experience more visual, clear and easy to find. Within this shortcut, there are the options to activate authentication in two factors, manage the displayed ads and control who can see the publications and profile information.

Also in this menu, it will be possible to find a new resource called Access Your Information. According to Facebook spokespersons, the novelty is a safe way to access, manage and delete your own information on the network, such as publications, reactions and comments, in addition to topics researched on the platform. Downloading data shared with the social network will also be easier. You can download it for backup, or transfer the data to another service. This includes photos, contacts you added to your account, posts from your timeline and more, explain Egan and Beringer.

Recently, Facebook found itself involved in a scandal after the complaint that data from more than 50 million users had been used illegally. Since then, the service has announced a series of updates in favor of greater security and privacy for those who have an account on the platform.

Last week, Mark Zuckerberg, creator of the site, made a post stating that, as a result of the latest events, he will investigate applications that had access to a large amount of user information before 2014 and that he will further restrict access to this data by third party apps and websites. In addition, viewing application authorization options will become easier and appear at the top of the news feed.

With a focus on these changes, Facebook also highlights next steps. Egan and Beringer inform that the terms of service and data policy will be updated with the aim of increasing transparency, and not to obtain permission to collect, use or share data.
