Exclusive: we put our hands on the Nexus One; check out first impressions!

We were all waiting and, mainly, wondering what the expected Google Phone would be like. Much has been said and speculated, but we are finally with him now called the Nexus One in our hands.

First impressions about the Nexus One

After being tasked with analyzing it, I tried to be as impartial as possible, even though I was an Apple-man and a power-user iPhone more than assumed.

But come on!

Right when you pick up the box, you realize that Google (actually HTC, which is the manufacturer of the device) took special care. It is a bit bigger than the iPhone 3GS, but very well finished and has a very interesting detail: a thin colored border with Google colors (green, red, yellow and blue) that gives it a charm.

As soon as we open the box, right away we see the Nexus One and a small Google signature right below, very reminiscent of the iPhone. One thing we cannot deny is that Apple changed the concept of cell phones, from the hardware itself to the packaging itself, and the other companies cleverly adhered to everything that worked.

Returning to the Nexus: taking the device out of the box, we found a very cool neoprene cap, which features the rob the official Android brand. Following in the box, we found all accessories well packaged and separated. I really liked the headset, specifically: it follows the same style as the case (with the brand detail) and in black piano. In addition, it has a much larger central control than the iPhone, making it easier to handle.

The Google gadget comes with a very simple charger, which gives the impression that it was manufactured either by Nokia or Motorola (okay, we can say that it is a charger in a retro style, hehe), in addition to a USB cable .

Another thing that Google followed inspired by the iPhone line is a mini manual like Finger Tips that comes inside the Nexus box. In this small document on a page, you will find the five steps to activate and start using your Google Phone.

One thing I found quite strange (this is only true for iPhone-lovers) is the fact that the device comes with a battery and a 4GB microSD card. It even took me a while to build it but nothing like playing LEGO, right? I just hope that, if I happen to drop it on the floor, it will not "dismantle" but this test will wait for it to happen "naturally"!

Now let's go to the device itself: it has a beautiful screen, a great resolution and has a very nice finish. Unlike the other devices with Android that we have on the market (G1, G2, Hero, DROID, Milestone, etc.) which I consider all ugly, this is a really beautiful and charming device. Check out, in this other post, your technical specifications.

Compared to the iPhone, it little smaller and thinner. One of the things I really liked that he has a grip (footprint) better than the iPhone in the hand and thus provides greater security in its handling.

As I already used an HTC Hero with Android, when I turned on the device I thought it would take longer to boot, but the speed surprised me. In a future article, I intend to compare the speed of the Nexus One with that of the iPhone and other devices.

First impressions about the Nexus One

As soon as the Nexus is connected, it already requests a valid Google account so that it can sync all its contacts, email, calendar, etc. In short, a synchronization of our entire life, no, since we use Google products / services for everything today.

When the device is already active and synchronized (this process took about five minutes on a 3G network), we have the main screen with shortcuts like Google searches (via text or voice command), messages, Android Market, phone, contacts, browser and map. The entry in the main menu of the device brings some cool effects / animations, as well as opening and scrolling apps.

One of the things I liked most about the Nexus was its camera that has flash, zoom and macro with excellent quality. I still need to do comparative tests with the iPhone 3GS, but that is for another opportunity.

These are my first impressions about the Google Phone / Nexus One. Take advantage of the comments below to send questions for our next article, which will be quite complete about the device. Until Apple comes with a new iPhone, it seems that this and others of the same type will be the fever of the moment among smartphones.
