Even with 141% growth, Amazon lags behind Apple in tablet market

The strong ecosystem of Amazon and the retail giant's low prices helped it dramatically increase tablet sales in 141% in the third quarter of this year, according to a survey published by Strategy Analytics. This helped the company climb the world sales ranking, but not enough to topple the top spot: Apple.

Specifically, Amazon sold about 5.3 million tablets in the third quarter, compared to 2.2 million devices in the same period last year; meanwhile the Cupertino giant has marketed 10.1 million iPads in the last three months, a 4% growth over last year's sales.
