European Commission is analyzing the purchase of Shazam by Apple

In mid-December last year, the Apple confirmed its intention to acquire the Shazam Entertainment although he did not disclose details of the agreement, including its figure (sources estimate it was in the $ 400 million range).

A few months later, of course, we learned that the European Commission she should open an investigation into the purchase focused on antitrust laws and she just made it official.

“The way people listen to music has changed significantly in recent years, with more and more Europeans using streaming of music, ”said Commissioner Margrethe Vestager. “Our investigation seeks to make sure that music fans will continue to take advantage of attractive offers streaming of music and will have no fewer choices as a result of this proposed merger. ”

The investigation is scheduled to be closed within 90 business days, until September 4, so before that we will not be absolutely sure that the business will go ahead. On the other hand, this is a standard measure in agreements like this, and when companies publicly announce plans like this, they usually have a high level of certainty that they will have no problems ahead of them.

The European Commission's focus also has, of course, to do with the fact that Shazam is a British company.
