Entertainment, work and management. Five free apps for those on vacation or working

The applications can be good solutions for those who are on vacation and for those who are working. Therefore, this week SAPO TeK's suggestions range from entertainment to work and task management.

For those who are working, time to remember Quip, an app that facilitates long-distance collaboration between team members who are working on a project. And, for those who want to understand the behavior of the smartphone with the applications that are in the background, there is DontKillMyApp.

This week SAPO TeK also made reference to Payback Challenge, an app with 31 challenges for young people to remain "connected" with each other, and Chudo, a social network where users take the form of floating heads, in a kind of mixture between WhatsApp and Second Life. Finally, the Memorigi application appears for those who want to manage tasks.

Remember this week's proposals.

Keep team work organized (even at a distance) and create live documents with Quip

Quip combines features of platforms such as Google Docs and Slack, allowing you to create live documents and facilitating long-distance collaboration between team members who are working on a project.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we work as a team and, even after entering the period of deflation, many companies still adopt teleworking strategies. If organizing a project among the different members was complicated before, the distance certainly did not make the process easier.

Quip wants to help teams that get lost between chains of feedback emails and documents that are always changing from title to variant of final version. The application combines characteristics of platforms such as Google Docs and Slack, allowing you to create live documents and facilitating collaboration.

As a team creates a document about a future project, members can give feedback to each other and discuss possible changes or aspects to consider in an in-app chat. In order not to lose the thread, you can also point out all the important points in a to-do list.

The application provides several templates for documents, whether they are just plain text, presentations or tables and graphs. It is also possible to import files from storage services such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Box, as well as from platforms such as Google Docs and applications such as Evernote. All the content produced can then be exported to Microsoft Office or to PDF.

Quip has a free version available for Android, on the Play Store, and for iOS, on the App Store. The application also features paid versions for small and large businesses, with prices starting at 10 dollars a month.

DontKillMyApp: How does your smartphone manage applications in the background?

The application was developed by a group of developers who want to counter the imposition of Android that suspends applications in the background to save battery.

Reducing battery consumption is an important goal, but it is sometimes important to keep some applications running in the background, even if it compromises the smartphone's lifetime. This is what a group of developers think that last year launched a website that intended to force Google to abandon the policy of "killing" applications. And this app inspired by that movement.

ADontKillMyApp is actually a benchmark application to understand the behavior of your smartphone with the applications that are in the background. The validation can take between one to eight hours, depending on the interval chosen by the user, and the application will launch several applications, calculating the tasks that have been performed.

If the percentage is low, it means that the smartphone is not allowing background applications to have access to resources. Even if the app helps to remove the protections that Android prevents or disable the "Twelve" mode of the operating system.

The app is available for Android on the Google Play store but is still in development mode, with early access. If you want you can check the source code that is available on Github.

Payback Challenge: The app with 31 challenges for young people to stay "connected" to each other

In the midst of a pandemic, the Transformers Movement wants young people to continue to live with their friends, but in a different way. For that, it launches several challenges such as making a one-minute dance video with someone.

1 challenge per day, 720 hours. able to reach the end? this is the issue that is prevented when installing the Payback Challenge app, an application designed by the Transformers Movement that wants to keep young people "close" to each other, maintaining physical distance. For this, it has 31 challenges to share with your friends.

Walking with a friend you haven't been with in a long time or, via video call, seeing your favorite series with someone are just two examples of the challenges that the app launches, one a day, for young people who join this Transformers Movement campaign. The national volunteering initiative has a vision of the world where each one discovers his or her superpower and uses it to improve the world, identifying the social isolation of young people, and its impact, as a major concern.

Payback Challenge

As with challenges, movement is also related to the concept of retribution. The mentors and volunteers give weekly classes in different areas such as cooking, football and kickboxing to groups of apprentices, mainly children and young people at risk. Over the years, these young people must identify a social problem and solve it through the activity assigned to them.

In a statement, Ins Alexandre, CEO of the Transformers Movement, explains that the app was launched so that the challenges can be shared, in order to involve the entire community in its resolution.

The free app is available for Android, and you can also choose to challenge yourself and others through the official website.

Are you looking for an app for your chores "? Try Memorigi

It falls into the group of applications that help manage tasks and, although it is not as well known as some of its (strong) competitors, it has several strong arguments.

Memorigi is more recent than several of its rivals, but it has managed to gain echo with its simple and intuitive philosophy, which makes creating and completing tasks an easy process.

It stands out for its intuitive interface, which shows all tasks "confined" on the main screen and those that still need to be performed at the bottom. Each one is identified through a icon that represents its category, being possible to access a calendar that shows the complete and incomplete tasks and a progress panel to visualize the statistical data.

The list of options offered by the application is quite extensive, namely synchronization between platforms, display of time that helps to better plan the week, support to add attachments to tasks, among others.

Memorigi is available for Android and has a free version, although some of the options only exist upon payment of the premium version.

Have you ever imagined a social network where it can be a floating head? Discover the virtual islands of Chudo

At Chudo users take the form of floating heads, in a kind of mix between WhatsApp and Second Life. In addition to being able to unleash your creativity and create a creative avatar, you can chat with other members through audio messages that turn into personalized animations.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, spending more time at home has become a reality that many of us were not used to and social networks and video calling platforms have become a way to keep in touch with friends and family even though we are away.

J John Donne, a British poet of the 17th century, said that no man is an island, isolated in itself and why not bring together those he likes best or meet new people in the virtual islands of Chudo?

Unlike most social networks, where we present ourselves to the world with a profile photo that, although it does not necessarily have to be an image of the face is a representation of our identity, at Chudo users take the form of floating heads, in a kind of mix between WhatsApp and Second Life.

What can you do at Chudo? In addition to being able to unleash your creativity and create a creative avatar, you can chat with other members through audio messages that turn into personalized animations.

The application is gaining popularity among American Internet users and, according to company data, in April, there were already 800,000 active users, many of them belonging to Generation Z, but also several Millennials.

Chudo is free and it seems that a premium version pays to be in the pipeline. To start exploring the virtual islands you only need to install the app, available on the Play Store and the App Store, and register as a member.
