Ebenezer Cobb Morley, father of football, honored with Google Doodle | Internet

Who was Ebenezer Cobb Morley?

Ebenezer graduated in law, but always showed a strong interest in sports. At the time (19th century), football was a very violent and disorganized game, as indicated by the game illustrated by Doodle. Thus, he decided to establish regulations to decrease the sport's brutality. Then, Ebenezer met with several English players from different teams and cities, until formulating, in 1863, a set of rules that ended up becoming the basis of football played in England.

Known as the father of modern football, Ebenezer not only helped to regulate the game, but he was also directly involved in the foundation of the Football Association, the oldest entity to control the sport in one country. He was the honorary secretary of the institution from 1893 until 1866, then became the association's president for seven years. Ebenezer passed away in London on November 20, 1924, at the age of 94.
