Easily transfer documents between your devices (iOS and OS X) with the DeskConnect app

Recently, the creators of the already recommended and praised Workflow updated their other application called DeskConnect. Therefore, we took advantage of the momentum to recommend this latest app, giving a brief description of the best aspects of this update.

DeskConnect is a cross-platform file transfer application. It has the same premise as AirDrop (native feature of iOS / OS X) and Instashare, but with many differences that end up making it much easier to use.

DeskConnect app for iOS and OS X

CONNECTING DEVICES

To connect your iOS and OS X devices, just download the app on each of them and log into your account (if you don't have one, you can quickly create the app with an email and password). Once this is done, the app will already recognize all connected devices on that same account.

NO MAC

Once you install DeskConnect on the Mac, it appears in the menu bar with an action for each type of application (not necessarily all). For example, if you open any Pages or Keynote document and click on the DeskConnect icon, the option to send that document already appears for you! Although not all apps have this option, you can drag any type of file from the Finder to the menu bar, to transfer them.

NO IOS

In the iOS app itself, you will see several options for sending clipboards, links, photos and documents, as well as all transferred files. Another option to send something within the third-party apps themselves: in basically any application you can tap the share button and send it to DeskConnect (if not shown, in the share options drag your finger from right to left until the option “ More ”and activate DeskConnect).

CLIPBOARD

Whether on iOS or OS X, you can directly share links and also any selected text! In OS X, if you copy a text or link, it will automatically appear in DeskConnect just select the device to send; already on iOS, you share links and texts as if it were any other file (by the share button). The copied link acts as a shortcut and the text appears as a file in Rich Text.

MISCELLANEOUS FILES

JPEG, PDF and TXT are just some of the file extensions that you can not only transfer but also open normally via DeskConnect itself. An incredible novelty is that there are other types of files that play smoothly within the iOS app: GIF, PAGES, DOC, ZIP (yes!), MOV, MP4, MP3, among many others.

OTHER CONNECTIONS

As the app uses a server, you do not necessarily need to be connected to the same network to make transfers. This is extremely useful if you are on the street, for example, and need to send something to your computer at home. Of course, the transfer speed will not be the same if you are on a bad connection, but there will be no problem if the file is small.

OFFLINE

If you have already shared some documents between platforms when you were online and they have already been completely transferred, you will be able to access them even when you are offline. And, if you are online on a device and send it to an offline device, it will download the file automatically when it finds a connection.

NOT A STORAGE SERVICE

Unlike any other cloud service, DeskConnect has a specific period when the file is on the server: 30 days. After that time, the file is automatically deleted. So, transfer any file and remember to save the important ones or those you use more than once elsewhere.

WORKFLOW

Being the same creators of the two apps, DeskConnect already has a great integration with Workflow. An example can be configured, in Workflow, to send a clipboard automatically to another device as soon as you copy something.

SIZE LIMIT

The size limit for transferring a 100MB file. Considering a normal user, I would say that this size is sufficient.

With all these qualities, it is easy to know why he easily beats AirDrop when it comes to speed, options and ease of use. 😉
