Dropbox for PC gets new free app; see how to download and use | Backup

Dropbox got a new app for Windows and macOS PCs last week. The update includes file management enhancements and increased integration with third-party services such as Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Microsoft Office, and Slack. The news has not yet been released for all users, but it is now possible to try the new app without the need for invitations or queue.

In the following tutorial, check out how to get access to and use the main features of the new Dropbox PC app. The procedure was performed on the version of the Windows 10 app, but the tips also apply to computers running the Apple system.

Step 1. Visit www.dropbox/features/new and, if necessary, log in to your account. Then press the "Try it now" button in the upper right corner of the page. The Dropbox app installed on your computer will be updated to the new version;

Step 2. Open the new Dropbox app to check out what's new. From there you can click on a file or folder to see the details in the right side column. Use the pin icon to pin important documents and folders to the top, link to the file or tick the "…" button to open the full options menu;

Step 3. In case of folders, you can drag them to the left side column of the Dropbox app to mark them as favorites and have quick access at any time;

Step 4. Press "Create" to add new folders, create shortcuts to Office or Google sites and documents;

Step 5. At the top of the Dropbox app main screen you can create numbered lists, to-do lists, make quick notes and mention members if you are part of a team.
