Do old iPad Air / mini cases fit the new models?

The new ones Air and mini iPads are already on sale in Brazil. And, in many cases, users of the new tablets that have cases from past generations can, of course, try to reuse these accessories in the new models. But will everything fit perfectly?

iPad mini

Analyzing only the measurements, the new iPad mini is basically identical to its predecessor (mini 4) and a little different from the mini 3. So, if you have a mini 3 case at home and intended to use it on the new 7.9 ″ tablet from Apple, you can put that idea aside.

Now, if you have an iPad mini 4 case at home, you can use it in the new model with some caveats. This is because, although the measurements are the same and all buttons are located in the same places, the new mini has slightly larger volume buttons, which can be a problem for some case models. In addition, the microphone on the new tablet has been repositioned and, depending on the case, it may become clogged.

iPad Air

The iPad Air is already a different case because, despite maintaining the same name, we are talking about a tablet with a design quite different from the previous models.

The third generation of the tablet is longer and wider than its predecessors, being even thinner than the current sixth-generation 9.7-inch iPad. So, no iPad Air (first and second generation) and 9.7-inch (fifth and sixth generation) cases will fit the new tablet.

Now, if you have a 10.5-inch iPad Pro case, you can reuse it in the new device as they have the same size. There is only one detail in this story: while the old Pro had stereo speakers (total of four), the new Air has the traditional combination of speakers that are at the bottom. This, however, does not create a fitting problem or anything like that, only aesthetic.

New cases for sale
