DisplayMate: Retina display of the new iPad is the best ever made for a mobile device

Whenever a new tablet hits the market, DisplayMate goes there and analyzes the screen of the gadget in question. Before the new iPad was launched, the best displays were the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab with the second being even slightly better in some places. Now the game has turned to Apple.

According to Dr. Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate, the Retina screen of the new iPad is the best seen on a mobile device, offering an image quality above any other on the market. Despite being great, the iPad screen had two "weaknesses": sharpness and saturation. However, according to Dr. Soneira, Apple managed to get around this very well in the new display, even calling it "state of the art".

To prove that the thing is serious, tests prove that the quality of the screen is second only to professional displays properly calibrated. In fact, DisplayMate said that, with some calibration, the new iPad's screen could be used as a studio monitor, given its impressive excellence.

However, as nothing perfect, there is still room for improvement. Now that Apple has already clogged the pixel screen (just over 3 million, at 9.7 inches), Dr. Soneira thinks the company can focus on other areas like pixel backlighting, better automatic brightness adjustment and reflexivity, which affects the brightest areas of the screen.
