It has not been a month since Apple announced its service of streaming of videos (the Apple TV +) and he already has another (big) competitor: Disney.
This week, the company of the famous American film producer announced its onslaught in the on-demand video market with the launch of its long awaited service, the Disney +.
The service will be available from the day November 12th, in the United States, by $ 7 monthly (or $ 70 annually), and Disney claims to "rapidly expand its availability worldwide" with plans to launch it throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia Pacific by 2021 Unfortunately, the official forecast for Latin America (including Brazil) only between late 2020 and early 2021 at all.
The company also detailed some of the content that will be made available on the service from the Disney + app, which houses not only the original productions of the movie giant, but also the content of its entertainment brands, including Pixar, Marvel, Star. Wars and National Geographic.
As for the app, we can say that the Disney + interface (including the web version) resembles the “old” version of the Apple TV app, with top (or newer) productions featured at the top, and separate company brands. by blocks followed by the carousel of movies and series.
The app is likely to be available through “traditional app distributors, with Apple being one of them,” according to Disney CEO, Robert Iger. In addition to Apple platforms (iOS and tvOS, at least), the director said users could sign up for Disney + through Roku and PlayStation, but refrained from naming other products and services.
It is worth noting that Iger has served on the Cupertino giant's board of directors since 2011, and despite the rumors that the executive could leave Ma for conflict of interest, he said to Bloomberg who is aware of their “responsibility to Apple shareholders as a board member”.
In addition to making its biggest productions available, Disney announced that all 30 seasons of The Simpsons will be included in the service catalog, as well as exclusive Fox programs and over 7,500 television episodes and 500 films. During the first year, Disney + will win over 25 original series and 10 films, including documentaries and specials (check out the full list of news here).
With the fall of Apple TV + scheduled for fall, it could be available at the same time as Disney +. As we all know, Apple did not provide a specific release date for its service. streaming, but said he be released between September and December.
Ma has not yet announced anything about how much to charge for Apple TV + subscription, so surely the $ 7 per month from Disney + will put a strain not only on it, but mainly on Netflix, which costs $ 13 per month in the US today. The fight will be good because, although the content between the services is distinct, only a portion of users will be willing to pay monthly subscriptions for all of them.
