1. Protection of personal data

The new AVG offers premium users a sensitive data module that adds an extra layer of protection against cybercriminals. The feature identifies files with confidential information about users and their families, such as work, health and plane tickets, and offers the option to password protect these files.

The program applies a kind of shielding that tends to prevent viruses from accessing files even if the computer is infected. As an emergency measure, the user can also choose to destroy the files in the trash to prevent them from being recovered.

2. Payment security

In order to combat common scams in online shopping, AVG 2019 brings a new function to make internet payments safer. Available to free or paid users, the feature detects suspected phishing sites through analysis of metadata and visual elements on the page. According to the manufacturer, the antivirus is able to recognize a dangerous website 99% of the time in less than ten seconds. Such functions can help not fall for scams during Black Friday, for example.

AVG has an intelligent feature that is able to identify whether the connection’s DNS has been changed by any external agent. Scams that undermine the user’s DNS gained notoriety in 2018 with the GhostDNS case, which directed users to fake pages even if the correct address was typed in the browser. The promise of AVG 2019, therefore, is to prevent this type of scenario from being possible.

Another feature that debuts at AVG Internet Security 2019 is the Do Not Disturb mode, popular on smartphones. The feature can prevent any program intrusions during presentations at work or ensure that a full-screen game is not interrupted by an update notification. You can block all Windows alerts, including browsers and other installed apps.

5. Webcam and ransomware protection

Present in previous versions of antivirus, the webcam protection feature remains in AVG 2019. The program actively scans the computer for programs that request the use of the computer’s camera. Thus, the user can authorize one by one or disable the webcam completely to stay protected. In addition, the protection layer this time includes a monitor against ransomware.
