«Dickinson» is the most popular series on Apple TV +; “Servant” will have three episodes available at the premiere

Several Apple TV + series to be released for free for a limited time

The first weeks of the Apple TV + have been slightly complicated: some of their series were not very well received, some users eligible for a free year of the service were unable to obtain the benefits and many people criticized the functioning of the platform, which mixes original content (free for subscribers) with iTunes Store movies and series, which can only be watched with purchase or rent.

Still, Apple has taken the service in ways it can until it is populated with more original content and options that appeal to a wider range of audiences. Today, we have some news about what’s already on the Apple TV + – check below.

At the time of the announcement, no one expected that a series about a 19th century poet with purposely anachronistic touches would be a great public gimmick, but here we are: according to Business Insider, «Dickinson» is the most popular production of this initial series of Apple TV + series.

The report cites data from the Parrot Analytics and its constantly updated list of the most popular series on streaming. “Dickinson” was the only Apple TV + production that reached the Top 10 last week – overcoming «For All Mankind», which seemed to be the most awaited series in the service until two days before its debut (according to Parrot metrics, that is).

The analytics firm is based on “demand expressions” on the internet and social media, since streaming they do not usually disclose specific audience figures about their series. Until the launch of Apple TV +, «The Morning Show» it seemed to be the series that attracted the least public attention, according to Parrot data – it is not known how the production has fared after the debut, however.

«Servant» will debut with three episodes

Meanwhile, Apple released important information about the debut of «Servant», the long awaited series of M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense”) for Apple TV + that will arrive at next 28. As with other productions on the platform, the series will premiere with three episodes available; the following chapters of the production will be released one by one, every Friday.

For those who are paying attention, this is Apple’s strategy to hold viewers’ attention in its series: three of the four original dramas that debuted with Apple TV + had this launching scheme – only “Dickinson” was made available on the platform with the first full season.

It is worth noting that yesterday (11/19) at night, Apple made the premiere officer of «Servant» at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in New York. Check out some photos of the event [cliquem/toquem nas imagens para ampliá-las]:

Critics of «The Morning Show» are haters?

Finally, it is worth commenting on a statement by two of the executive producers of «The Morning Show», Kerry Ehrin and Mimi Leder. According to them, the negative criticism initially received by the series came from “haters Apple ”and people who wanted to see Apple fail in their original content initiative.

Producers were invited to the conference Recode Code Media, in Los Angeles, and shared that impression. Leder said the following:

When criticism started to appear, I didn’t know what series they were watching. And I just kind of thought they were all crazy. I felt that there were many haters from Apple and people wanting Apple to fail. The good news is that people love the show, and we love the show, and that’s what matters.

In fact, there is a wide disparity between assessments of «The Morning Show» considering critical and public: in the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the series has 63% approval by expert critics and 95% approval of the general audience. This is not a rare phenomenon – just look at the franchise’s pass (or fail) rates «Transformers» or many of Adam Sandler’s films, for example.

Leder said that, criticism aside, the series’ staff and cast are simply striving to create the best content possible.

We focus only on the story we’re telling, the characters we have. We are in it. So when you see the criticisms that are seeing it from a business perspective, like «what Apple is doing» or «they spent too much money on it», that’s kind of separate from us.

So yeah, right?
