Developers can now offer promotional codes for in-app purchases

Ever since Phill Schiller (Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing) became responsible for App Store, the store has undergone several changes that benefit both users and developers.

The news announced by Apple yesterday (10/28) will make a lot of people excited: developers can now make available, through iTunes Connect, promotional codes for in-app purchases. Previously, only paid apps could have promo codes, which prevented free apps with in-house purchases (also known as freemium) to be thoroughly tested and evaluated without spending money. With this new measure, many more people can test, evaluate and even review apps in a way that attracts more buyers.

It will be possible to make available up to 100 codes of an app per platform or 100 per item for internal purchase, with a maximum of 1,000 codes per app in a six-month period (whose count will reset every January 1st and July 1st).
