Developers are very excited about the potential of ARKit; check out some initial demos [atualizado 2x]

For a keynote so full of news like that of the last day 5, Apple has spent a long time demonstrating some initial applications of its new development platform for technologies augmented reality. And not least: Ma managed to develop a highly promising system, with the potential to be used in the most varied creations of developers around the world, the sky is the limit.

Proof of this is a matter recently published by Motherboard, in which some developers give statements about their first experiences with the platform and widely praise the creation of Apple. Take for example the printing of Cody Brown, founder of the virtual reality studio IRL:

The most impressive thing about ARKit that it tends to just work. Other AR software often requires some kind of physical tracking mechanism, like a QR code, which inevitably becomes a point of friction if your goal is to get everyone to use this type of thing. Another amazing aspect about ARKit as it deals with lighting adjustments in real time I can barely imagine the magic under this technology to make it work.

This is a slightly disturbing test produced by Brown's own IRL. Notice how, in the video description, he states that he “never saw a tracking like this”:

J Kyle Russell, from investor Andreessen Horowitz, tweeted The following video of an airplane model being mapped in the environment and rendered in real time by an iPad, the animation, according to him, reached an appetizing 60 frames per second (the rate considered ideal for games and the like).

Impressed by how well ARKit maps objects in their environment. It's easy to set up!

Another very interesting demonstration is this 8ninths, called “Rainforest garage”:

These we gaveOf course, it is only for the time being proof-of-concept that developers will use as a starting point for creations that will eventually reach consumer devices either in the form of games or practical, utilitarian applications. Although we have to wait a few more months (or years) to enjoy the ARKit practice, it is nevertheless an encouragement to see that the technology started with the right foot and was very well received by the developer community after all, when the relationship starts well , the fruits are always thicker.

Finally, it is clear that we cannot fail to show a last demonstration of the platform, based on an old acquaintance (or not) of ours:

And, did you like it? 😛

Update 06/22/2017 s 12:40

Apparently, the amount of demonstrations of the new augmented reality platform from Apple is already so large that some enlightened have already had the idea of creating a page on the internet gathering the most interesting of them. The Made With ARKit website, established four days ago, already brings some other videos that give an even stronger taste of what we will have on our iPhones and iPads when the technology reaches consumers' hands.

Here are some of the coolest applications highlighted by the site:

Parking a (virtual) car with the iPhone

The moon landing in your kitchen

And, of course, an army of cat astronauts

Update II 06/26/2017 s 15:39

Ok, ok: all the demonstrations presented so far were, without a doubt, extremely fun and well done, but nothing compares to the one that Made With ARKit shared today in terms of usefulness and, believe me, the architecture student inside I just needed to explode with emotion.

Take a look:

The simple function of measuring things with ARKit can be a hand in the wheel for such a large number of situations that it can even be a demonstration of the technology that will make it fall in popular taste initially. Okay, maybe the results are not as accurate as, say, a laser measuring tape, but for measurements with a lesser degree of accuracy required, the iPhones and iPads of the near future will certainly do more than satisfactory work.
