December shows growth in domestic access to banking sites

Last December, 46.8 percent of Internet users over the age of 15 used the Internet connection from their homes to access banking websites. The value translated into 509 thousand individuals shows an increase of 2.4 percent compared to November, according to Marktest’s Netpanel data.

On average, 80 thousand Internet users visited this type of website daily during the period analyzed, consulting a total of more than 41 million pages. These figures represent a monthly increase of, respectively, 6.7 percent and 1.5 percent.

The monthly browsing time exceeded 296 thousand hours, an average of 9,569 hours per day and 35 minutes per user, says Marktest. In relation to the previous month, there was an increase of 2.1 percent in navigation time and a decrease of 1.2 percent in average daily time. The average time per user remained unchanged from the previous month.

With 243 thousand unique users, the cgd.pt domain continues to lead the top banking sites, registering an increase of 5.2 percent compared to November. In second place, the millenniumbcp.pt domain registered 182 thousand unique users, an increase of 7.7 percent over the previous month. The third place belonged to bes.pt in December, with 96 thousand unique users, showing an increase of 14.3 percent compared to November.

As for the number of pages visited, the top is also headed by the domain cgd.pt, which registers more than 20.3 million, 8.3% more than in the previous month. Millenniumbcp.pt also occupies the second position, with 8.5 million, up 8.7 percent over the previous month, while bpinet.pt takes the third position, although leading the biggest decline compared to November, with 34 less, 7 percent of pages visited, a total of just over three million pages visited. In this table, the biggest increase in relation to November was the domain totta.pt, which grew 67 percent.

By financial groups, the analysis gives the CGD group the leadership in number of unique users (243 thousand, in December) and in number of pages visited (more than 20 million), being the second place occupied by the BCP Group, which registered 188 thousand unique users and 9.1 million pages in the period analyzed, and the third to the BES Group, which registers 109 thousand unique users and 2.6 million pages visited.
