Data Robotics launches Drobo FS and facilitates file sharing

Data Robotics launched its newest generation of NAS on Tuesday (Network-Attached Storage, device dedicated to storing files within a network), Drobo FS.

Drobo FS

The product contains five hard drive bays just like the Drobo S, but incorporates a Gigabit Ethernet connection for faster data transfer. In addition to storing files, it also functions as a DLNA, iTunes and UPnP media server, as well as offering native support for AFP and SMB (Samba).

To take it all, Drobo FS has a processor dual-core internal, more memory and an improved version of kernel of Linux that runs its own operating system. Compared to Drobo S, performance gains reach 300%.
