“Customers pressured us to keep launching the TCL 10 series”

Today TCL launches its new TCL 10 Pro and 10L, which are part of the new range of smartphones that the company showed at CES and which would be announced at Mobile World Congress 2020, if the conference was not postponed. Portugal is again the country chosen to be ahead of the launch, similar to what had already happened with TCL Plex last year, and Patrcia Cavalheiro Dias underlines that this happens due to the brand's confidence in the country, the success of the launch of TCL Plex, but also due to the pressure of customers (retailers and operators), who asked for no postponement.

Portugal is the first country to receive the TCL 10 series and place it on the market, and we are proud, he explained today in an interview with SAPO TEK. The new smartphones will now be sold on the open market, at the main retailers, and operators will also integrate the new models in their portfolios.

None of the customers wanted to postpone the launch and they pressured us to keep the date () this shows how confident they are about the new product and its launch, says the head of TCL and Alcatel in Portugal.

The idea had already been spent this morning during a webinar in which the new smartphones were presented, which also talked about the effect that the pandemic of COVID-19 is having on the market, with a negative effect on some product categories, but with rise of others, such as tablets, TVs and some home appliances.

Sales are not at the same day they were, but we have already felt some recovery in the last few days, with people wanting to return to their routines, says Patricia Cavalheiro Dias. Those with open stores have reasonable sales, above what we expected and the TCL official says that she is confident that the products will be well received, also due to the aggressive positioning in terms of price and premium features.

Online is an important channel and there are many retailers betting on this area, where TCL is also placing greater investment for this launch. We are channeling our shares online, explains Patricia Cavalheiro Dias, who says that when stores open, shares will be resumed at points of sale.

In the telecommunications operators' channels, the new smartphones should only be on sale at the end of April, beginning of May.

Similar to what happens with the Alcatel brand, which also belongs to TCL, Portugal has been one of the countries in Europe where the good sales results and brand awareness are more expressive, which is recognized by the company's leaders at an international level, enhancing the priority launching various equipment.

Patricia Cavalheiro Dias assumes that TCL Plex was a success, although she does not share sales figures. "Demand was well above expectations (…) It was very well accepted in the Portuguese market", he stresses.
