Samsung recently kept an eye on the Texas Instruments team of designers to bolster its chip team, including those that the track record points to server system chips. Now, one of the most prominent of those recruited has left the South Korean company and gone to Apple.

The handset maker hired Jim Mergard, a 16-year-old veteran and former vice president and chief engineer at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), before leaving for Samsung. He is known to play a leading role in the development of an AMD chip codenamed Brazos, designed for computers low-end portable.

For a while now, Apple has been investing heavily in processors, which can be found on iPads, iPhones, iPods touch, Apple TVs, etc. Will we ever see Apple’s chip family equipping Macs? There is no shortage of people in Cupertino thinking about it. ?[[]
