Consumer electronics manufacturers form alliance to promote PLC compatibility

COLLAB distinguished with the APDC / Siemens Innovation Award

CE-Powerline Communication Alliance, or CEPCA, is the name of a new initiative that brings together Panasonic, Mitsubishi Electric and Sony in the promotion of PLC specifications (Power Line Communication) and that was made known at CES.

These PLC specifications aim to allow easy interconnection between systems that use that technology for the networking audio, video or data. With the partnership, consumer electronics manufacturers aim to «encourage consumers as well as other IT companies around the world to establish an environment where access to home PLC networks is available globally», explained in a statement press release.

The PLC comprises technologies and standards for the use of the electrical network in the transmission of high-definition video and Internet telephony. With the advances recorded recently, home networks may come to have functions of authentication and encryption, the companies said in the statement.
