The certification of computer skills of the ECDL – European Computer Driving License has been updated with a new exam system that allows greater interactivity between the user and the application. The software was developed by a team of more than 40 IT engineers and had the collaboration of ECDL Greece and Portugal.

Known as «Computer Driving License», the certification system already covers 15,000 Portuguese, being made available in around 260 training centers across the country. However, ECDL outlines more ambitious goals for 2008, the year in which it wants to reach 25 thousand people certified and 400 authorized assessment centers, Paula Colaço Gomes, executive director of ECDL Portugal, told a press conference. Worldwide, ECDL has already issued more than 7 million computer skills certificates, being present in 150 countries.

The new certification system is called inATES and works in «collaboration» with the software application. During the examination process, inATES activates the application of exams on the candidate’s PC and presents the question or task that will be asked to be solved.

The system automatically calculates the candidate’s performance and counts the time spent to answer the questions. According to company information, it is compatible with several versions of Windows XP and Microsoft Office in Portuguese and English, and Office 2007 and Windows Vista should also be available soon.
