From time to time, news comes up about an XYZ battery type that promises to revolutionize our electronics experience. This time, I liked it because there was no absurd promise like an iPhone to last two months for recharging. But it would still be quite an advance: one week!
The bet, counts the Telegraph, from a British company called Intelligent Energy. She is working on a type of battery based on hydrogen (fuel cells), which generates electricity through a chemical reaction with oxygen.
The cool thing is that she already managed to incorporate a prototype into an iPhone 6 and, to recharge it, she uses see only the headphones port. In addition, the carcass had to be slightly modified to allow the escape of a minimal (imperceptible) amount of water and steam, fruits of the chemical reaction. Refill “cartridges” would cost something around the price of an espresso.
Mark Lawson-Statham, the company's CEO, believes that this is something that we can see coming true in just two years. Before that, we need to prove the strength / durability of the solution and that some giant like Apple does embrace the technology.
It does not matter to me whether what goes to avenge this or any of the countless other bets that arise every year. What I most want to be able to look back on and give (a lot!) A laugh than we still suffer, in 2015, with electronic batteries.
