Communications regulator receives close to 25,000 complaints in 2007

Over the past year, the electronic communications regulator has received 24,745 complaints. The number represents an increase of 43 percent over the previous year, according to a statement from Anacom, which reports an exponential increase in complaints received through complaint books.

The electronic communications sector leads in complaints submitted in absolute terms, totaling more than 18,400 complaints, largely ahead of the second sector with the most complaints, the postal sector with 6,100 complaints submitted.

Among the main discontent factors, with regard to electronic communications, users reported delays in the deactivation of pre-selection services by some service providers, issues related to Internet access, cable television, fixed telephony and mobile service.

Complaint books accounted for 68 percent of complaints received. The complaints were joined by 575 requests for information, 79 petitions, 16 suggestions and 59 communications of a different nature, totaling 24,745 requests.
