Committing Diolinux to the neck with Goals by the end of the year!

Diolinux

I would say that this is the type of publication that fans of the blog and the channel will identify with the most. Today I want to talk openly about prospects of what we would like to achieve by the end of the year and things we have achieved together this year, since we have passed half of it recently, and it happened so fast that I can hardly believe it. ?

I was never a person to create many goals, not even the New Year’s that everyone does, however, I realized that when it comes to the Diolinux project, I used not to make goals, and mainly, not expose them when I did any, at least fear of failure, for fear of feeling bad if any of them were not reached, even more if I committed myself to the public.

Diolinux may even have started as a personal project, but today there is a large community of people who identify with it, creating a healthy environment for learning and sharing ideas, which is something sensational, you should be proud to be part of! Seriously, stop and think about how much, we have changed the thinking of Brazilians in relation to Linux in the last decade, and we have changed together with you, who support us and enjoy our work, every time you shared something we created together. ?

Goals and projects already achieved

This year we produced around 140 videos, almost 30 Diolinux Friday Shows, and also 30 episodes of DioCast, as well as more than 400 articles on the blog. But without a doubt, the 3 great achievements were:

– The launch of our forum, Diolinux Plus.

A place where our community can get together to talk about the subjects it likes, help each other, and which is probably the first forum that talks more about Linux to have categories only for people who use Windows and macOS to talk, without discrimination, without «Bullshit». Not in an attempt to convert someone, but to show that above all, we are friends and professionals and no matter what platform you like best, there is a space for knowledge, not ideology.

Currently Diolinux Plus is maintained mainly by our supporters at Apoia.se, that help slaughter a really cool part the service’s operating value. Thank you so much for caring! It’s already a habit to greet them in the morning at our group on Telegram! ?

– The goal of 300 thousand YouTube channel subscribers

An unbelievable milestone for a Linux channel, even more in Portuguese. Today we are professionals, today the Diolinux community on YouTube is the world’s largest related to content.

Want to know a curiosity? I had “explained to myself” that it was not a “goal”, but a “thought”, something that would be “cool”, maybe just because I didn’t want to put this pressure on me and on you, but I remember having imagined that it would be “a good thing” if we reached 300,000 followers on YouTube by the end of the year, and we did it practically in half the time!

I couldn’t be happier! ?

– Launch of Diolinux Play

It may seem silly, but I had been planning Diolinux Play since 2016, of course it didn’t have that name yet, but the idea of how the content would be distributed already existed. So finally being able to bring the project to life is a joy beyond measure!

Diolinux EAD, our current course platform, has become less attractive to competitors in the market, which eventually became major partners, such as Udemy. Because of that, I always thought that a more “Netflix” format would be much more interesting for you, which would be cheaper than Netflix itself (and Udemy’s courses).

Thanks to the help of YouTube itself and our channel manager, Bruno, from Google, we had access to new tools from the “Clube dos Canais” service, where we were able to create our subscription model called “Diolinux Play“. Thanks to another fantastic partnership, we were able to create the site play.diolinux.com.br, with the help of HostGator, to better organize the content that will be posted.

At Diolinux Play we will have exclusive videos exclusive to members, our EAD courses will be taken over time, as well as new content will be published as well. Having this possibility to make Diolinux Play viable fulfilled a dream that I had «for many summers».

I haven’t felt so compelled to do things with even more extreme care than usual in a long time to please those who like us so much, who decided to be club members and help us with yet another project. Many cool things are being produced, you don’t miss out on waiting! ?

What do we want to achieve with you by the end of December?

I was in a recent meeting with Bruno, the same from Google that I had mentioned previously, and I ended up committing myself to a new goal for the channel for the end of the year, almost without meaning to.

After I left the meeting, remember the characters “Chicó and João Grilo”, from “O Auto da Compadecida”, Brazilian classic ?

That said, I think the best way to deal with this pressure is to tell everyone about the plans for the project. Perhaps it can inspire you to say out loud the things you want to achieve as well and propel you to make your dreams come true too. ?

YouTube

YouTube

It would be much easier, and it would be less pressure maybe even, simply to consider that the goal of 300 thousand people in the channel has been reached and “we will declare the year as earned“, But in reality, challenges move us forward with greater momentum than a tide full of bonanza, so the goal of 2019 will be 350 thousand subscribers on the channel. This was a challenge posed by YouTube itself to us, literally.

I confess that I feel awkward exposing this, after all, if it doesn’t work and we don’t get there everyone will know, but it is a risk I am willing to take with you. Help us achieve this goal, take the channel to people who don’t know you yet, share our videos, remember to click on the «Like» button when you like the videos, comment too.

The more you interact with a video, the more YouTube understands that you like the material and the more likely you are to receive notifications for the videos and the more likely they will appear on your YouTube timeline.

Another challenge is to transform YouTube’s “Become a Member” into a fantastic teaching tool and more serious content. When the YouTube people thought about this “membership”, they aim for something more similar to what Twitch has with creators, like SUBs, but the truth is that YouTube is different, and we were also challenges to become a case for platform in relation to that.

Can I count on you to win this battle? Will we be able to consolidate ourselves as the largest Linux community on YouTube in the world?

I look forward to seeing how far we can take our ideas of knowledge and freedom. ?

Instagram

Instagram

I made goals for 2019 for virtually all Diolinux social networks (except Facebook), and Instagram is one of them. Nowadays it is a very effective way to produce content and reach people outside the “Linux bubble”, something essential when you want to put people in touch with a new idea.

My goal for 2019 is to reach 10,000 followers there, for the simple reason that, from what I’ve heard, from 10,000 followers, Intagram allows me to add links in Stories for blog materials and other content, on that “slide to access” format, making Instagram an efficient tool for the dissemination of articles and posts, videos, lives and more.

In that case, it won’t be that long until, if you can help us, we can get there very soon! ?

Twitch

Twitch

Twitch is our game lives channel, the idea is to always play games on Linux and things are really fun there, but we also have some goals and I would like to be able to count on your help.

Within Twitch we have two main goals:

– Getting the partnership with Twitch

Partnership, is when we have some minimum requirements to be able to be monetized by the platform, and make the project self-sustainable, as it happens on YouTube, we need 75 people watching simultaneously on average for this, and we are about 53 at the moment, so if you can participate it will be amazing!

Help us create a place where gamers from other systems will contact Linux for the first time! ?

– Reach 10,000 followers on Twitch

From the point of view of social visibility, it is important to reach larger and rounder numbers. Something curious on Twitch, is a channel with this size of followers is not large, no doubt, but it is a value that represents much more than 10,000 followers on YouTube for example, compared to other channels, both for the platform, when for the public.

If you don’t already have a Twitch account and don’t follow our channel, which is live every night, Monday through Friday, at 8 pm, create now and follow us. Help us reach that mark, share it with your friends, your groups, your communities, let’s go together become the biggest Twitch channel on Linux and Gaming.

The reflexes of introducing Linux to people through games are notorious, as this attacks a great myth right away, the famous “Linux has no games”. I had my first contact with Linux only after school, in a technical course, and the presentation was not cool either, but imagine a generation that is introduced to Linux amid the games they like most?

Help us in this social change! Besides, participating in lives on Twitch is really fun! ?

Twitter

Twitter

In 2019 we started using Twitter more from the blog (@blogdiolinux) who was «getting a dust», as it ended up becoming a very effective way to talk to Linux developers, big projects, in addition to notifying you, so to speak, of all the material we do.

When a new article comes out here on the blog, when a new video comes out on the channel, when we go live on Twitch, all of this is posted on Twitter, in addition, it is a very cool place to interact directly with you.

Our goal for 2019 with Twitter is to reach 15 thousand followers, can you give us strength?

Twitter, like Instagram, is also an important tool in social impact, especially when it comes to talking, treating and charging developers and large companies.

The cards are on the table!

With that I think I opened up the whole game regarding our expectations and how you can be part of something bigger and help us get there! ?

Sometimes, during the days that go by, I find myself thinking why I do the things I do, the way I do, and I realize that if there is something we can do today, it is to create a better tomorrow, with our effort, work and collaboration.

Will we be able to achieve these goals? I can count on you? With your help, we will go a long way yet! Look at all the transformation you helped us to create in the Brazilian Linux community! ?

To the next!
