COLT wants to grow 30% in 2006

COLT Telecom wants to grow 30 percent in 2006. To achieve this goal, the company intends to rely on two large contracts already aligned, which should ensure half of the expected growth. The businesses in question involve Banco Mais and Millenniumbcp.

The first contract lasts for three years and the second for 10 years and both cover international business for the groups. Along with these deals, the British operator’s subsidiary bets on data services that already account for 57 percent of the company’s turnover.

In 2005, the company increased its turnover by 48 percent with a 60 percent growth in data turnover, while EBITDA improved by 17 percent. During this period COLT invested 13 million euros, most of it in the fiber optic network that grew 110 kilometers to reach a total of 300 kilometers.

Over the past year, the company has advanced in Porto with the implementation of 50 kilometers of fiber. This operation has already contributed 10 percent to the total turnover of the Portuguese subsidiary in 2005, benefiting from a 200 percent growth in the volume of business generated in the region.

COLT also launched, during the second half of last year, an offer for small and medium voice and data companies (COLT Total) which already has «a few dozen customers», Adelino Santos, general director of the Portuguese operation, said in a press conference. , which expects a 20 percent share of this segment in the company’s turnover this year.

The investment in the unbundled plants is also, according to the official, a bet to be maintained, although for now with a reduced weight in the operation’s businesses. For the time being COLT is in 9 central units in the Lisbon area, from which it offers direct service to customers.

This quarter, COLT improved its turnover by 7 percent, compared to the previous three months, and increased data turnover by 10.2 percent. In this period the company invested 1.3 million euros.
