Cisco promises to steal Apple and Sony market

The fight promises to be a good one. According to some rumors, Cisco – a company that had its origin in the computer labs at Stanford University and today has more than 54,000 employees – a world leader in equipment for network infrastructure, intends to expand its tentacles (ops!) To the promising market for residential electronic entertainment.

Awaited for CES 2009, the news includes a wireless stereo system and gadgets to watch Internet videos on TV in a simple way. Another bet is called telepresence, a high definition videoconference that simulates a live encounter. This system, incidentally, already exists for the corporate environment, but its cost, in my view, is still prohibitive to the delight of home users.

It would be a smart move – both from Apple and Sony – to be concerned with such a desire by Cisco to enter the residential entertainment market, as the San Jose (California, USA) company does not play in service and, unlike the which usually happens with Microsoft, usually leads all the niche markets in which it participates. Better for us!
