Google Calendar can add reminders of upcoming events to Chrome through desktop notifications. Once set up, simply create appointments in the calendar and keep the service website open in the browser, in a background tab, to receive alerts.

Step 1. Visit the Google Calendar website and sign in to your account. The site requests permission to display notifications on the desktop. Press the "Allow" button to authorize;

Step 2. If the feature is not offered, select the lock icon, left of the address bar, and choose the "Allow" option under "Notifications";

Step 3. Now access Google Calendar settings by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the page;

Step 4. In the left column, open "Event Settings" and make sure desktop notifications are enabled;

Step 5. To add an event, go back to the main Google Calendar page and press the "Create" button;

Step 6. Add a title for your event and select the start and end date and time. If you wish, you can add guests, location and description. Finally, press "Save".
