Chrome 77: Learn about the features of Google's new browser version | Browsers

Google Chrome arrived on verse 77 on Wednesday (11). The main novelty of the update is a feature that makes it easy to send web pages to any devices with the browser installed. The browser also has a new welcome window and improvements to the site isolation mechanism, which offers extra protection during browsing. The concealment of security certificates and the new look of the download section on Android phones are also among the update updates.

Google's browser is available for computers running macOS, Windows, and Linux, and the update is being released gradually. For Android and iPhone (iOS) users, the update should come in the coming weeks.

The new Chrome has a feature that lets you quickly send any webpage to another computer or mobile phone with the browser installed, as long as the devices are signed in to the same account. On smartphones, tab submission is available within the "Share" option with the "Send this page" button. On computers and notebooks, the process is equally simple: just right-click on the desired link and select the send option to another device.

The feature started to appear in the browser versions of Windows and mobile (Android and iOS), but has not yet been activated on the macOS system. Remember that Chrome has been supporting open tab navigation on different devices for a long time. The novelty, therefore, only makes the process faster.

The update brings a new welcome experience. After installing the program, the browser invites new users to "get Chrome their way" and set up the initial settings. A wizard guides newcomers, who can bookmark apps like Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps, choose a browser background, and sign in to their Google account to sync browsing information across devices.

It is noteworthy that the welcome of Chrome 77 replaces the "New Tab" page at the first opening of the browser, so that you can skip the whole step by step if the user so wishes.

New Look Downloads

The new version of Chrome for Android has improved the download page. The browser has deleted the menu in the upper left corner and now allows you to search the downloaded contents with filter buttons. The view of saved images also got bigger.

EV Certificate Hiding

Extended Validation (or EV) certificates extended validation) are used to protect users from suspicious websites and appear in the browser's address bar. When we access addresses like PayPal, for example, we see the text "PayPal, Inc." right of a lock cone. With the update, Chrome 77 hides the certificate and only displays the protection icon.

As explained by Google developer Devon O'Brien, the reason for the change is that the Chrome Security UX (user experience) team has determined that the EV interface does not protect users as intended. Chrome will still show certification details, however, now available in the Page Info dialog box.

Website isolation and vulnerability correction

The site isolation feature, which provides extra protection while browsing, has been enhanced in Chrome 77. The mechanism is now able to protect cookies, HTTP resources, and other data that circulates between different sites, even if the user is visiting intruder-controlled pages. The security measure will be enabled on some Android devices to protect websites where users enter passwords. In addition, Google has fixed a total of 52 vulnerabilities in this Chrome update.

Chrome version 77 is available for download through Over-the-Air updates for Windows and macOS users. You can also install the update from your browser settings under the "About Google Chrome" option. The update for Android and iPhone (iOS) phones will be released in the coming weeks.
