Chinese website publishes details of the next processor to be used on Macs Pro

The Chinese websitePCOnline.cn got more official information about a new six-core Intel Xeon processor, due to be used by Apple in the next revision of the Mac Pro, in early 2010. Apparently, it will be based on the same technology as the new Core i7-980X Extreme Edition ( code name “Gulftown”), scheduled to be released in the second half of February.

The technical specifications of the chip are illustrated in the image above and are identical to those published in our previous article on the subject although some speculations have considered the new processor as Core i9. In addition to having tremendous computing power, it also offers an integrated memory controller (supporting only DDR3 combs up to 1,066MHz, already used by Apple) and can be used with various combinations of dedicated graphics cards.

Given its expectation of release, it is estimated that a new Mac Pro will be unveiled by Apple in March, when the current model turns one year on the market. In addition to the details about its possible CPU offerings, there is still not much information available about what the new desktop will bring.
