Chinese government blocks movies from the iTunes Store and the entire iBooks Store

The Chinese government is known to control / censor many of the content and services available on the web. But Apple has always been “immune” to these blockages, even for the good relationship it has with its numerous local investments.

However, from yesterday to today as reported by the New York Times , area iTunes Store movies and all iBooks Store were blocked by the Chinese government. The order came from State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SAPPRFT) and so far it is not known exactly what happened.

In a press statement, Apple said it was working to re-establish access to its online stores that, by the way, arrived in China at the end of last year (a few months ago) with Apple Music, which was not affected by the quickest blocking possible.

The news certainly hit Cupertino, considering that China is now Apple's second largest market and the fastest growing worldwide.
