Check the result of our research on purchase intention for Apple devices

At the beginning of last November, we launched a website Informal research on intent to buy Apple devices. The idea was to collect different data among readers and, thus, bring interesting numbers to you.

It took us a while, but here are the results. Some readers pointed out that the research was not built perfectly, disregarding, for example, those who had just bought a new Apple product or even bought it a short time ago but that it was not necessarily of the latest generation. We recognize the errors, but they are not enough to invalidate the research that, by the way, had almost 3 thousand participations. Thank you all!

So, let's go to the graphs? 😉

Mac

Intent Search - Mac

More than three quarters of our readers have Mac.

Intent Search - Mac

Almost half (46%) of those who own a Mac have bought it in the past three years.

Intent Search - Mac

Only a fifth intends to buy a new Mac in the next 6 months. Worrying, huh Apple?

Intent Search - Mac

The main reason chosen among those who intend to buy a new Mac that "the new one has one or more features that interest me".

Intent Search - Mac

On the other hand, most will not buy a Mac first because the current one continues to function / meet their needs perfectly and, soon after, because they cannot spend and / or do not have the money to invest in a new one at the moment.

iPhone

Intention search - iPhone

Less than 10% of our readers do not have an iPhone.

Intention search - iPhone

The exchange rate for iPhones is high. Only 8.5% have devices with more than three years of purchase.

Intention search - iPhone

This question is one that may have been influenced by the fact that we did not consider in the questionnaire that many could have already bought a new iPhone this year. Still, the number is high.

Intention search - iPhone

Again, features are a predominant factor when choosing a new iPhone, but design doesn't appear far behind.

Intention search - iPhone

No surprise here, either: Anyone who is not going to buy a new iPhone says the main reason for this is that the current iPhone is working perfectly and / or meets their needs.

iPad

Intention Search - iPad

Almost two-thirds of readers have iPads; amazing.

Intention Search - iPad

In iPads, we already have a much more uniform distribution per year. The largest slice was in 2014, with 26.6%.

Intention Search - iPad

In the absence of news on iPads, coupled with the fact that they have a longevity, it led to only 11.6% of the survey respondents replying that they do intend to buy a new iPad in the next 6 months.

Intention Search - iPad

Do you see the trend in this question?

Intention Search - iPad

Same here, although in a more balanced way too.

Apple Watch

Intent Search - Apple Watch

Here, things change well: just over a quarter (26.1%) of readers own an Apple Watch.

Intent Search - Apple Watch

As a new product, the year of purchase is almost balanced between 2015 and 2016.

Intent Search - Apple Watch

Even though there is a much smaller share of readers who already have an Apple Watch, also only about a quarter (24.1%) intend to buy one in the next 6 months.

Intent Search - Apple Watch

The pattern of responses more or less continues here, among those who intend to buy a new watch.

Intent Search - Apple Watch

Among those who do not intend, the money factor is paramount because the Watch is not a fundamental device for anyone.

Apple TV

Intent Search - Apple TV

In the case of set-top box da Ma, the division between those who have and those who do not have almost the same.

Intent Search - Apple TV

Here, a balanced division similar to that of the iPad, with the exception of only the very old models, from 2011 to the back, which have almost no representativeness in the graph.

Intent Search - Apple TV

Another product that is not in the future acquisition plans among readers.

Intent Search - Apple TV

Except for small variations, the graph here is standard among all products.

Intent Search - Apple TV

Ditto about this.

· · ·

In general, the numbers show that Apple needs to move well to re-enter consumers' purchasing intent. Still, * many * participants pointed out in the open / subjective response at the end of the survey that they were unable to respond accordingly because they had already purchased one or more next generation Apple products in 2016.

Another thing that is frequently pointed out in the open field of research, and that we do not take into account in the questionnaire itself, that many choose to rarely or never buy anything via Apple Brazil. They prefer to ask someone to bring them from abroad or take advantage of international trips to purchase their products from Ma, considering their absurd prices here.

We thank once again all 2,924 who participated in the survey, as well as everyone who sent us criticisms / suggestions about it. We will do this more often! 😊
