Until today, on any Android device (including Nexus and Pixel), tapping “Check for updates” had no function: you had to wait for the rollout to arrive on your device.
Now, however, Google will understand the touch of this button differently: the company will recognize its willingness to obtain updates and, in this way, speed it up for you.
According to Google’s software engineer, Elliott Hughes, the novelty is not limited to Android versions, but to Google Play Services, which now recognizes this behavior.
«Even if we are at 1% deployment and 1% of users already have the update, if you check it manually, it will be offered,» he explains.
However, this will only work for devices sold directly by the search engine or devices using Google’s OTA update system.
Anyway, it is good news for those who have Nexus or Pixel devices and are not satisfied with the delay in receiving updates.
