Charlie Sloth debuts program on Beats 1; Apple hires TV veteran and former Samsung

Apple recently closed some notorious hires in different areas of the company – including new talent for its thriving customer service. streaming video and to the battery department of gadgets of the Apple. Before that, let’s see what’s new on Apple Music.

Charlie Sloth

Former BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ Charlie Sloth joined the Apple Music team last October and, last Saturday, debuted his new show on the Apple service, called “The Charlie Sloth Rap Show”, as published by NME.

The program combines interviews with celebrities from the world of rap and R&B with the old Sloth painting, called “Fire in the Booth” – in which rappers are challenged to do freestyle Live. The presenter also intends to introduce great and new artists and said that he is looking forward to “promoting British music” during an interview with his colleague and Beats 1 DJ, Zane Lowe.

Sloth was fired from the BBC and 1Xtra last November after ten years with the company, and the process was not exactly pleasant. During the Audio & Radio Industry Awards, in October, the DJ was upset because he lost in the “Best Music Specialists Program” category for presenter Edith Bowman and decided to put his mouth on the trombone – if we can say so.

At Beats 1, the “Charlie Sloth Rap Show” airs every Saturday from 6am (Brasília time). Apple Music subscribers can also check out the playlists program and videos of the presentations.

Jason Katims

Jason Katims for Variety

The producer, screenwriter and creator of the classic program of the late 1990s “Roswell”, Jason Katims, left Universal TV after signing a multi-year contract with Apple, as reported by Hollywood Reporter. The hiring will take effect around the end of the first half of this year, when your agreement with Universal will expire.

At Apple, Katims will be involved in the creation and development of new projects for the future streaming company’s video production from its production company True Jack Productions. Despite this, he will continue to be involved in two ongoing projects with Universal TV – the drama “Away”, in partnership with Netflix, and the program “Sisters”, aired by Fox.

The move to Apple will bring the producer together with Apple’s current executive director of video production, Michelle Lee, hired in late 2017. Previously, Lee and Katims worked together at True Jack Productions, together with the current head of development for that producer. , Jeni Mulein, who will also work on the Cupertino giant’s projects.

Soonho Ahn

Apple closed an interesting contract at the end of last month: Soonho Ahn, then senior vice president of Samsung SDI (South Korean giant battery manufacturing affiliate), joined Apple to help lead his work with (not surprisingly) batteries, as the Bloomberg.

According to the executive’s profile on LinkedIn, he assumed the position of Global Head of Battery Development after serving for almost four years as VP of Samsung SDI, when he led the development of lithium batteries and in “next generation technologies”.

Of course, Samsung SDI’s biggest customer is Samsung itself, but Apple has bought batteries from the manufacturer in the past. Now, Apple is working to reduce reliance on third-party companies and manufacturing its own internal device components, something that may be directly related to this new hire.

In addition to Ahn, it is very likely that there is an extremely specialized team behind this Apple venture. We hope, in the future, to see good fruits (read: better batteries) emerging from this partnership.
