CES 2019: Check out the highlights of the Samsung event

Samsung's event at CES has always been one of the most anticipated at the fair. The South Korean brought news in electronics, artificial intelligence and connected home.

The long-awaited press conference was held today (7/1) at the largest global technology fair, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2019) in Las Vegas, and the South Korean manufacturer came packed with news in the various segments in which it operates.

The President and CEO, H. S. Kim, started the Samsung event commemorating the company's 50 years of innovation and announcing the company's vision for the future with the Internet of Things, 5G connectivity and Artificial Intelligence.

5G Connectivity

Samsung was the first manufacturer to receive FCC (American Anatel) approval for 5G commercial equipment.

Bixby

More than just a virtual assistant, the Bixby Samsung's artificial intelligence platform and its development will be essential for the company to achieve the vision of connected future that it promises to customers.

Bixby is gradually being expanded to several types of smart devices, from Smart TVs and smartphones to air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines.

In addition to reaching more devices, Bixby will gain an important integration soon with the services of Google, including Gmail, YouTube and Google Maps, being added to the ecosystem.

98 ″ 8K QLED TV

Sales of TVs with screens over 75 ″ have doubled in the US in the past year and for this reason Samsung has announced a new 98 inch 8K resolution QLED TV, the largest brand to date.

The 8K series has a Quantum Dot screen, 33 million pixels, supports HDMI 2.1 input and will also be available in sizes 65 ″, 75 ″, 82 ″ and 85 ″.

As the supply of content in 8K is still scarce, Samsung will use artificial intelligence to resize and improve the image, regardless of the original resolution.

In addition to image quality, Samsung promises an updated feature pack for the 2019 line of televisions.

Demand for smart home appliances continues to rise and to make the experience even better, Samsung introduced the Family Hub 2019.

Another novelty of the Family Hub is the voice commands in natural language for Bixby, which can be used to call an Uber, search for recipes, program appliances, among others.

The South Korean also brought CES a new line of notebooks and a super versatile monitor.

O Notebook 9 Pro, designed for professionals, has an Intel Core 8 generation processor, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. The device runs Windows 10 Home, has a redesigned keyboard, offers up to 14 hours of battery life and comes in the box with a stylus, called Active Pen, to write and draw on the touchscreen.

Another interesting novelty for content creators is Notebook 9 Pen, a 2 in 1 laptop with aluminum body, Intel Core i7 8 generation, 16 GB of RAM, fingerprint authentication and facial recognition, which comes with an enhanced S Pen to offer a more natural stroke, with less latency.

To the gamers, the brand presented the new notebook Odyssey equipped with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 series GPU, Intel Core i7 8 generation, 16 GB of RAM and 144Hz monitor.

For those who need more desk space, Samsung presented the Space Monitor, a flexible-based monitor that can be “stored” when not in use.

The Space Monitor will be offered in two sizes: 27 inches with QHD resolution and 32 inches with 4K UHD resolution.

Connected cars

The Korean partnership with Harman continues to bear fruit through the new Digital Cockpit 2019, presented at the Samsung event. The technology supports up to 6 screens in a single car and is integrated with Bixby, allowing functions of the car, such as seat adjustment, to be controlled remotely.

The equipment recognizes the driver and specific passengers using a set of cameras and reconfigures the space of the car according to the preferences of each one.

The Digital Cockpit is part of the Samsung DeX for passengers who need to check emails and documents while in transit and has an impressive security system based on cameras instead of mirrors.

The system is able to alert the driver if he is too tired to drive the vehicle and, in the future, be able to help in the search for parking spaces in a mall before the car gets there.

Behind this technology is the new mobile processor Exynos Auto from Samsung, capable of handling complex artificial intelligence tasks quickly and efficiently.

Robtica

To close the event, the manufacturer surprised by bringing to the stage the Samsung Bot Care, a personal care robot that assists owners, especially the elderly, to check heartbeat, blood pressure, monitor sleep, take medication on time and even call emergency services.

In addition to Bot Care, Samsung introduced the robots Bot Air, for residential monitoring of air quality and the Bot Retail, an assistant robot directed to trade.

The latest technology shown by the company was an exoskeleton prototype called Samsung GEMS, which helps in lifting heavy objects.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not give details on when these robots will be available on the market, let alone how much it will cost.
