Caliber ebook manager wins new version after two years

Two years after the release of the latest major release, version 4.0 of the Caliber multiplatform ebook manager is released.

Caliber is an ebook manager, available for Linux, Windows and MacOS, capable of doing much more than just a reader function. Through Caliber you can view, convert, and access ebooks you already have on a wide range of platforms such as Amazon Kindle, Google Books, eBooks, and more.

According to chief development officer Kovid Goyal, the two year time frame for this release was caused mainly by the difficulty in migrating the software from QtWebKit to QtWebEngine. This was necessary because the former is no longer maintained.

In the recently released version, 4.0, were presented several news, of which we can highlight:

Added the function of copying images from books by right clicking on them;

Possibility to choose between hiding or displaying the scroll bar;

Better integration with dark themes;

The layout of the ebook reader has been completely rewritten in order to remove excess buttons and options displayed on the screen while reading. Thus allowing the reader to focus on the text;

Added the function of converting ebooks to all formats supported by Caliber;

Particularly, I don't like reading books on screens. I prefer to read them old-fashioned, in print format. However many people have this habit, and like to enjoy the practicality offered by ebooks. For these people, software like Caliber is certainly a hand on the wheel. Kindle owners often use the software to convert their ebooks and PDFs on Linux, an interesting alternative.
