Bouncer, a new layer of security on the Android Market

Google today announced the implementation of Bouncer, an automatic monitoring service that will scan the Android Market for potentially malicious software without interrupting the user’s experience and without requiring an approval process with developers.

“When an application is loaded, the service immediately starts analyzing it to recognize malware, spyware and trojans. It also looks for behaviors that indicate that an application may be misbehaving and compares it with applications previously analyzed to detect possible red flags, ”explained the Google Mobile team.

Google also said it plans to run all applications on its infrastructure and simulate their workings when running on an Android device. New developers will also be analyzed to prevent problematic applications from returning.

Working in secret, Bouncer was responsible for reducing the number of potentially malicious downloads from the Android Market by 40% in the first and second semesters of 2011. Other protections such as Sandboxing, Permissions and Remote Malware Removal also consolidate the current layers of security created by the internet giant.
